WORCESTER, Mass. — Unations’ first team suffered a narrow 2–1 defeat to Hartford Athletic II on Saturday evening at Morse Field, conceding a late winner in a hard-fought season opener.
Kicking off at 7:30 p.m., Unations delivered a strong first-half performance and were rewarded in the 38th minute when Guervens Murat finished off a swift team counterattack, converting a well-timed assist from Mikky Oladipo to give the home side a deserved lead. The goal capped off a disciplined and energetic opening period in which Unations controlled much of the tempo.
Holding a 1–0 advantage at halftime, Unations looked poised to build on their momentum. However, Hartford Athletic II responded in the second half and leveled the match in the 65th minute from the penalty spot, shifting the dynamic of the contest.
With the score tied, both sides pushed for a winner in an increasingly tense final stretch. Hartford Athletic II ultimately found the breakthrough in the 90th minute, edging ahead late to take the lead.
There was still late drama, as Stephen Jackowski, making his Unations debut, produced a penalty save in the 93rd minute to deny Hartford Athletic II from extending their advantage and keep his side within reach until the final whistle.
Despite the result, Unations showed promising signs, particularly in the first half, and will look to build on their performance moving forward.
Unations will now turn their attention to their next fixture, traveling to face South Coast Union on Sunday, April 12 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, where they will look to bounce back and secure their first points of the season.
