Late Push Falls Short as Unations Drop Tight Contest to League Leaders GZS Bridgeport

Alex Egan scored twice off the bench to spark a second-half comeback effort, but GZS Bridgeport held on for a 3–2 victory in a crucial UPSL New England Premier matchup.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Unations fell just short in a hard-fought 3–2 loss against league leaders GZS Bridgeport on Sunday evening at Morse Field in Worcester, Massachusetts, in UPSL New England Premier action.

GZS Bridgeport came out aggressively and controlled much of the early tempo, applying pressure throughout the opening half. Their persistence paid off shortly before halftime when the visitors found the breakthrough to take a 1–0 lead into the break.

The visitors continued their momentum early in the second half and quickly doubled their advantage to make it 2–0, putting Unations under significant pressure.

Looking to spark a response, Unations introduced attacking substitutions Alex Egan and Belsi Moran, and the changes immediately impacted the match. Egan pulled one back shortly after entering the game, giving the hosts new energy and cutting the deficit to 2–1.

However, GZS Bridgeport responded quickly and restored their two-goal cushion moments later with a third goal to make it 3–1.

Unations refused to back down, and Egan once again delivered an immediate response, scoring his second goal of the night just minutes after Bridgeport’s third to bring the score to 3–2.

The final 15 minutes saw Unations push relentlessly for an equalizer as the hosts created dangerous opportunities and applied sustained attacking pressure. Despite coming close on several occasions, league leaders GZS Bridgeport managed to hold on and secure all three points.

With the result, Unations will now turn their full attention toward a massive playoff-deciding matchup against South Coast Union next Saturday, May 30th at 7:30 p.m. at Morse Field in Worcester, Massachusetts. With the playoff race tightening, the winner of the contest will likely secure the final remaining postseason spot in the UPSL New England Premier.
